David Van Vlierbergen, Class of 2015. David is an entrepreneur and financial professional that currently serves as CFO of Fernway, a cannabis branded products business based in Northampton, Massachusetts. On campus at UIUC, David was involved with three different start-ups and took on leadership roles with organizations including IBA, the MIL Lab, and PGN.
Upon graduation, David moved to NYC to start his career in M&A at J.P. Morgan. Next, he joined Fine Capital Partners as a long/short hedge fund analyst. Fine Capital was a value-focused long/short hedge fund that managed $1 billion in assets, and David focused on brands and consumer packaged goods. In October 2018, David was connected to Fernway through a mutual friend, and he started consulting part-time before joining the team full-time in June 2019. David is one of four initial employees at Fernway, and he has helped lead the company through business plan optimization, two equity funding rounds (raising a collective $3 million), and commercial partnerships.
