Navigating Registration
Registration is underway! As you finalize your fall schedule, please keep the following information in mind.
Registration Support
Please continue to join us in scheduled appointments, drop-in advising, and/or peer advising when you have questions. Drop-in advising will continue from 10:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 3:00pm on weekdays through May 14th. The last day (until next fall) for Peer Advising is tomorrow, May 5th.
Registration Advice
The Unassigned Planning Form shows the same courses (for example, BUS 201 and BADM 210) in multiple semesters becasue the order of the Core classes is flexible.
- Unlike BUS 101 which is a fall-only course, BUS 201 is offered in both the fall and spring semesters. If BUS 201 is full, plan to take it in the spring.
- BADM 210 is offered every semester and can be taken your 3rd, 4th, or 5th semester, depending on your intended major.
- ACCY 202 is offered summer, fall, and spring semesters.
Business Core Alternatives
- BADM 350 - This is open to all Gies students with sophomore standing. It is not a Business Core, but it is required for all majors within Business Administration. except for Mangement. It is a major course available to Unassigned students exploring Information Systems major or the Informatics Minor.
- PSYC 201 - This is a Marketing major elective option. Unassigned students who are planning to major in Marketing could select this course; it doubles as a Behavioral Science General Education course and the Marketing major elective.
- General Education - It is common for students to be enrolled in 2-3 General Education courses during their sophomore year. These graduation requirements are just as important as the Business Core coures are.
Unable to register for courses with open seats?
Double-check the section restrictions through Course Explorer to determine if there is another section open to you. For example, ACCY 202 section AL1 is open to all Gies students, but section AL2 is restricted to James Scholars.
If Course Explorer confirms that you do meet the section restrictions and you are still unable to register, it means that the remaining seats are held for a specific student attribute. Use the "Notify Me" feature outlined below to receive updates on course availablity throughout the summer.
Want to know when a seat becomes available in a section of a course? ("Notify Me")
Course Explore has a “Notify Me” option which allows students to select “favorites” and opt to receive an email if a seat becomes available in the section. The section status updates in Course Explorer from Self-Service every 10 minutes. If a course you want is full, register for another course but use this feature to know if a seat becomes available. Peer Advisors are happy to assist students with this setting.
To set up a notification follow these steps:
- Go to https://courses.illinois.edu/ and log in. The log in link is on the top right hand side.
- Search the course you're interested in.
- In the third column, click on the star. This will add the section to your favorites.
- When you do that a little window pops up that you can go to your favorites in "my.courses." Click on "my.courses". There is also a tab in the upper right corner labeled "my.courses."
- Check the “Notify Me” box by the courses you've selected so an email will be sent your Illinois account when a seat is available.
The email notification will state the following:
This is an automated message from the Course Explorer system notifying you that a seat has become available for the following section:
Term:
Course:
CRN:
Meeting day/time:
This notification does not guarantee you the seat nor indicate that you are eligible to enroll in that section. Visit Student Self-Service to register for classes once your Time Ticket is active. Modify your notifications in the Course Explorer.
All the best,
Your Undergraduate Academic Advisors
