Fall and Summer Registration
Time tickets open next week for most sophomores and freshmen! Here are a few resources and reminders to assist you with your academic planning and registration.
Plan for the Fall
1) Identify your time ticket using Self-Service. All time ticket dates are determined by the Office of the Registrar.
2) Use the Unassigned Planning Form from your Spring Semester Planning Workshop as you review your Degree Audit Report (DARS) to make your course selection.
- Sophomores who are not yet declared should refer to their Unassigned Planning Form and 2019 sample major plans in addition to running their DARS. We recommend that you schedule an appointment (even if its after your registration) with an Academic Advisor to discuss your major declaration plans.
3) Use the Plan Ahead feature in Self-Service to create your ideal schedule and look up every section of the courses planned in Course Explorer to know which sections have restrictions in advance. Do you have questions about coursework, location, restrictions, or how to create a plan? Meet with a Gies Peer Advisor!
4) Connect with a Gies Peer Advisor or Academic Advisor. Whether you have questions about this semester, fall, or summer we can help you. Visit us during drop-in advising or schedule an appointment. Please do NOT email to request an appointment.
5) If you receive a registration error or need advice for a course during your registration, please come to drop-in or peer advising. It is the quickest way to resolve your problem during registration. Students can work with ANY advisor or peer advisor in this virtual space. If you see that a course of interest is full, meet with a Peer Advisor to discuss alternative Business Core options and learn about the "notify me" option in Course Explorer.
Thinking about summer courses?
Students are not required to take Summer courses; it is simply an option. Instead of taking a summer course, students can review Gies Groups Events to find leadership and professional development opportunities available virtually throughout the summer. We understand it's been an exhausting year, and we encourage you all to take time to rest during this break.
Summer Term at Illinois
Students can choose to register for summer term courses when their fall time ticket opens. Please review the Summer 2021 Academic Calendar carefully before registering for summer term course(s). Summer courses are offered in POT1 (first 8 weeks), POT S2 (second 8 weeks), POT S2A (4 week course), and POT S2B (4 week course). Start and end dates for classes are available in Course Explorer.
Students enrolled in ONE course:
May 16, 2021 is the deadline to cancel a POT1 (first half) summer term course, and June 13, 2021 is the deadline to cancel a POT2 (second half) summer term course. A student who registers for only one summer course and no longer wants to be enrolled would need to CANCEL their registration according to these dates.
Students enrolled in MULTIPLE courses:
If a student enrolls in multiple summer courses and decides to drop one but not all courses, they should follow the drop deadlines outlined in the Summer 2021 Academic Calendar.
Off-Campus Summer Courses
Meet with a Gies Peer Advisor for assistance with Transferology to select UIUC course equivalents at other institutions. Already know how to use Transferology? Review how to transfer your credits to Illinois using our Off-Campus Transfer Course webpage.

Drop Deadline
May 5, 2021 is the deadline to drop a full-semester or POT B course via Self-Service.
Pass COVID / No Pass COVID
Watch our Town Hall Recording to learn more about this option. Once final grades are posted, students will have until 11:59pm on May 27, 2021 to select this option. See us during drop-in advising if you have questions about this option.
Sincerely,
Your Gies Undergraduate Academic Advisors
