My name is Jennifer House, and I am the embedded counselor from the Counseling Center to the Gies College of Business. My role is to work specifically with Gies students to provide confidential, mental health services. In addition, I collaborate with Gies departments and RSOs to provide outreach and prevention services, such as workshops and presentations tailored to meet the needs of Gies students.
This academic year, without question, has been and continues to be a difficult one. We have been faced with many challenges, demands and priority shifts. Students are struggling with isolation, loneliness, motivation and time management in the virtual setting—not to mention internship and career searches in the midst of a global pandemic. During this time, your wellness is equally as important to prioritize as your academic work, and I would encourage you to consider a small way you can incorporate self-care into your daily routine. Trying to figure out what that might look like for you? Don’t worry, the Counseling Center has you covered. This semester, you can look forward to the Counseling Center continuing to provide a variety of services to support students during this difficult time, including our popular skill building workshops, trainings and self-care videos on our YouTube channel, and cultural diversity outreach. Sign up for our In The Know newsletter here to receive bi-weekly updates on mental health resources, self-care tips and workshop updates. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment with me, collaborating with me on a project, or learning more about Counseling Center services, I invite you to contact me via email (jhouse@illinois.edu
