It is finally time to begin planning for your second semester! All first-semester freshmen are required to complete one Spring Semester Planning Workshop between October 26th and October 30th, 2020. Workshops will be held virtually this year through Zoom and will be hosted by Gies Academic Advisors and Peer Advisors. We want every student to have the knowledge, resources, and tools to create well-informed and individualized academic plans, and the workshops do just that!
These workshops are essential because they will teach students how to ...
- Review Degree Audit Report (DARS) and track graduation progress.
- Identify and plan Business Core courses.
- Navigate online registration tools such as Plan Ahead and Course Explorer.
- Create an individualized course plan for the spring 2021 semester.
Workshop Registration
- Register for workshops though Academic Advising Gies Groups Events
- Workshops are posted in Gies Groups as an event from Undergraduate Academic Advising. You must be logged into Gies Groups to view and register for an event. They are also linked to this email.

- The Zoom links and event descriptions are included in the event details.
- Each workshop has a 30-person limit so reserve your spot early!
- You will receive a reminder email with the Zoom link one day before your workshop.
- BLLC residents - you can choose a workshop labeled "Freshman" or "BLLC".
- International students - you can choose a workshop labeled as "Freshman" or "International". The content is the same, but the times are later in the evening and early in the morning (CST). Choose what is best for you!
Day-of Workshop Reminders
- You must be logged into Zoom with your Illinois email address to join the workshop.
- Upon arrival, you will be given a fillable planning form to use throughout the session. Save this and bring it to your advising or Peer Advising session in November!
- You will run your individualized Degree Audit Report (DARS) and begin to fill in your planning form during the workshop. We encourage you to use a device (or have one nearby) that allows you to fully participate and plan courses during this time.
