While Math 234, Business Calculus, is the Business Core requirement for Gies students, we still have students taking Math 220/221 Calculus I. As a reminder, Math 220/221 is a math series for students wishing to pursue STEM based dual degrees and/or minors. If you are a student finding yourself strugging in Math 220/221, the Math Department offers the chance to drop-down to Math 115 Pre-Calculus by October 1st. If you decide to choose this option, you will be excused from Exam 1 and some of the written/electronic homework, but you will be tested on that material on the final exam; please consult the Math Department about this policy.
The Math Department would like you to be aware that even if you had Pre-Calculus in high school, Math 115 is an intense, challenging class that is not an easy A or B.
Process to switch:
Meet first with your department advisor to discuss how this change would impact your degree or minor program; also obtain a late add form to take to the Math Deparment. Also speak with Financial Aid and the billing office about finaical responsiblities you may need to resolve. After meeting with your advisor, go to the Math Undergraduate Office, 313 Altgeld Hall, weekdays 9am-11:30am or 1-4pm. Advisors will assist in selecting a lecture and discussion section.
If you have questions, you are welcome to email mathadvising@illinois.edu, include your 9-digit UIN) or stop by 313 Altgeld Hall, weekdays 3-11:30am or 1pm - 4pm.
