Students enrolling in Math 112--College Algebra, Math 115--Preparation for Calculus; Math 220--Calculus I, Math 234--Calculus for Business, will be dropped from those classes this Tuesday/Wednesday if they have not met the U of I Placement Exam through ALEKS PPL prerequisite, official deadline Monday, January 27.
Note: the placement score must be from a test taken September 21, 2019 or later--last summer's scores are no longer valid.

The Placement exam is designed to match students with the university mathematics course that is the best fit for them. If students want to take Calculus but have a 78% on ALEKS, Math 115 is the class that will give a very strong foundation and best chance for a good grade, so that they can succeed in calculus later.

1. The system is asking me for a course code. Can you give me that? Answer: This means that your old ALEKS account is expired and you will need to purchase a new code. Please go back and make the selection that allows you to purchase a new account.
2. If I get a higher score on ALEKS, can I move to a higher class? Answer: if appropriate, yes. A student who earns 78% on ALEKS the first time and 81% on ALEKS the second time may switch to Math 220, but could benefit from staying in Math 115.
3. I am taking Math 112/115/220/221 but should be exempt from ALEKS because [reason]. Answer: There are no exemptions.
4. I am a new student who has taken ALEKS twice but the system won't let me access my third exam. Answer: Students must use the Learning Module for a minimum of five hours in order to unlock Exam
