SPAN 232: Spanish in the Community. CRN 51170, sec. G, 3:00-3:50 p.m., MW in 336 Davenport Hall [A. Abbott]
In this service-learning course, not only will you learn about the lived realities of Latinx immigrants in Champaign-Urbana, you will also learn with and from them as you volunteer two hours each week with a local organization that serves our Latinx community. Time in the classroom focuses on issues of immigration policies and life in the “new Latino diaspora” as well as the ever-changing headlines about immigration in the US. The course is taught in Spanish; anyone who grew up speaking Spanish at home (heritage learners) and/or has taken four years of high school Spanish can join the course and succeed.
