An Introduction to Professional Responsibility
Business 101 is required for all incoming students at Gies, introducing them to professionally responsible decision-making when confronting ethical challenges in the workplace. The course features corporate guest speakers who provide examples of professional responsibility in action. It culminates with team poster presentations during which corporate and faculty judges evaluate five-person teams' proposed professionally responsible solutions to product introduction challenges. More than 7,500 students have completed the course since its inception in the fall of 2007, and the innovative class was recognized by the "Reimagine Education Ethical Leadership Awards" global competition in 2017.
Poets and Quants released an article ranking the Gies College of Business as number 18 among Top Business Schools. Much of the article highlights the Business 101 program and its groundbreaking impacts. Read more about Gies and Business 101's impact HERE>>
Principles of Professional Responsibility
Business 302 is an elective that examines professional responsibility and ethics theory and practice in greater depth. This course explores attributes required to advance understanding of professional responsibility in the context of an ever-changing business environment. It builds upon the coursework done in Business 101 and is designed for select upper level students who aspire to serve as Section Leaders in Business 101 each Fall.
Ethical Dilemmas of Business
In this elective, students explore business decision making in a variety of real cases and examine, often with guest speakers from the business, the ways managers make professionally responsible and ethical decisions and effectively communicate those values-based choices to colleagues and employees. It is one of several required optional courses for business minors.
