MSA Career News - Fall Edition Vol. 3
This is a very busy week so this is going to be a long newsletter! There are a lot of events happening this week and you will need to prioritize the ones you must attend. Keep in mind that you will have opportunities to meet some recruiters/employers at the Gies Business Fair next week so plan accordingly. Finally, remember to take care of yourself first! You can only be successful if you are happy and healthy!

Career Advising Appointments and the "Career Studio"
Career Advising Appointments: Appointments for all Career Advisor (Lily and Layla) and Peer Advisors (Stacy, Mike, Cristian, Rui, Itan) should now be available on Gies Groups.
Career Studio: We will have a Peer Career Advisor available between 10:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, in the “Career Studio”, in our reception area – 1033 BIF. You are encouraged to stop by the “Career Studio” and get help from an advisor whenever you have a quick question or need support sorting out an urgent situation. The idea is that a conversation in the Career Studio should be a 5-10-minute conversation. The Peer Advisors will refer you to a Career Advisor (Elizabeth Chominski, Deb Hom, Dede Kern Brown, Layla Alazawy or myself) when an Advisor’s involvement will be helpful to you. This is similar to our summer "Drop-in" Advising except there is a larger window for advising!
On-Pitch! - Career Fair Pitch Practice
Are you ready to introduce yourself to recruiters at the Fall on-campus career fairs? Come practice your career fair "pitch" or self-introduction with Career Services! No appointments are necessary but we recommend that you come during the following times:
- Monday, September 9, 10am-4pm
- Tuesday, September 10, 10am-1pm
- Monday, September 16, 10am-4pm
- Tuesday, September 17, 10am-1pm
Just let the front desk know you are here for Drop-in Advising and they will assign an appropriate advisor to you. Not sure how to start developing your "pitch" check out these guides on Gies Groups Files:

NOTE: If you have never attended a career fair in the past, I recommend that you dress up in your professional clothes and attend this Fair! It is set up very similar to the Gies Fair. You don’t need to talk to anyone, but it would be good practice. All Illinois students can attend this Fair.
