Fourteen years ago the MS Finance program started the Jim Gentry Corporate Finance Case competition. This was in honor of Professor Jim Gentry who pioneered the use of cases to teach corporate finance in our graduate programs. Although Jim no longer teaches in the program he passed on his wisdom through successive professors who have taught FIN 522 Cases in Financial Strategy.
On November 13, 2020, you have a chance to compete in the 14th Annual Jim Gentry Case Competition. This competition takes place on a Friday. Cases will be distributed on November 6 and you will have one week to prepare your case and in the morning present to our panel of distinguished judges, including your professors, other faculty members, and alumni from the finance industry. Teams who are successful will make it through to the final round where the finalists will compete for the final cash prizes, again judged by our distinguished panel. Cash prizes will be awarded to members of the first place team and runner up team.
• The first place team will split $3,000 equally among its members.
• The second place team will split $1,600.
I was involved in the competition as a judge for 2013-2018; previous participants and even the judges agree that it is one of the most rewarding experiences in the MSF program. You will get the chance to test your skills not only against each other but also against your professors and other experts who will ask very challenging questions during your presentations. Plus, you also get to win some cash and have something which you can include on your resume.
If you are interested in the competition, please sign up using the link below, to attend the information session which takes place on Wednesday, October 28th from 8am – 9am CST.
Best wishes,
Martin
