Happy Friday!!

Thank you to everyone as you finish up your employer research for the career fair(s). All of your classmates are counting on you to finish and submit your 2 companies to the Box folder so that everyone has access to all employer information.

As a reminder:

1. Once you have completed your research email each file as a separate attachment (with the name pattern ( Company name_Fall 2020 ) to this email link by putting it in the TO: email field: Gies_Ca.bw6du66b3bp8fy17@u.box.com
2. Please make an effort to turn in all research by Sunday (9/13) night 11:59 p.m.

Messages and Reminders from Gies Career Services

MSM Group Career Drop-In Sessions:

Reminder that we have another group drop-in career advising session this month for any questions that you may have as you navigate the start of recruiting season. Jump on zoom with career services, get your questions answered, and hear your classmate’s questions get answered.

• On Monday, September 14^th 2:00-3:00 pm - we will be talking about the upcoming virtual career fairs (Gies Business Fair & Relish Graduate Business Fair). This session is limited to 12 students and will be led by Gies Career Services Director: Elizabeth Chominski. Come prepared with questions on how to get research done, be organized, and prepared to chat (and interview) with recruiters. Register Link in Gies Groups

Career Services Virtual Drop-In Advising:

Do you have a career related question, need a bit of quick advice, resume or cover letter review and can’t wait for a scheduled appointment with your career advisor? Gies Career Services has the answer for you! We offer Drop-in Advising anytime Monday-Friday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm via Zoom.  Visit the home page of your Gies Groups website and click the virtual drop-in link. If you need a more lengthy appointment, please schedule an appointment with your career advisor.

Thank you for your attention this week as we went through Career Fair Preparation and Resources.  As you prepare for the career fairs. Here is the exhaustive list of employers attending on Wednesday September 17^th.

I also spent time sourcing some Graduate level positions for companies attending the Gies fair on Sept. 17^th.   Please include this in your preparation but do not consider this exhaustive information.

Victura Consulting, Monday September 14, 5:00-6:00 pm - The goal of the Victura Consulting Informational / Q&A session is to give students a brief presentation on the consulting industry, who Victura is, and what they do. GEP Consulting Information Session and Case Workshop, September 22, 5;00-6:30 pm

GEP information session & case workshop available to both undergraduate and graduate students. If you are interested in a consulting career – please plan to attend this event. They will be using this a an opportunity to get a first look at potential candidates and you will get some insights into GEP and how they evaluate the case interview process.

NNSA Graduate Fellowship Program Info Session, September 23, 1:00-2:00 pm

Fellowships Available: Protect our nation’s security as a Department of Energy NNSA Graduate Fellow. NGFP is seeking highly motivated graduate-level students to grow as the next generation of national security leaders. The one-year, salaried (with benefits) fellowships offer:
• Hands-on experience in national security and nonproliferation;
• Career development, professional networking, and specialized training events; and
• Extensive interaction and collaboration with leading national security technology and policy experts.

These positions are open to students actively pursuing their master’s or doctoral degree as well as students who have achieved their graduate degree within the past 18 months. Virtual Career Fair (Applied Health Sciences and DIA Student Athletes), September 23^rd 5:00 pm 8:00 pm - The Fighting Illini Virtual Career Fair is open to all students but is targeting student-athletes and students majoring or minoring in fields of study under the College of Applied Health Sciences. This annual event is a premier career advancement and internship opportunity event for AHS students and student-athletes.

Illinois ACES & LAS 2020 Virtual Career Fair, September 24^th 8:00 am – 5:00 pm - A virtual career event for MSM students with a non-business background. 

Week of September 28, 2020

     West Monroe: A Career in Consulting: Fact and Fiction,

Choosing your career path can be daunting - we get it! Especially in consulting, an ambiguous field with multiple different industries and focus areas to explore. If you’re thinking about consulting, this session will get to the core of what it means to embark on this career journey. Our team will discuss why companies hire consultants, uncover the differences between consulting versus industry positions and highlight the skillsets that set consultants apart. This session is intended to be engaging and informative - bring a notebook and some good questions because this jam-packed session might be the spark that lights your career search on fire.
