Can you tell me a little background about yourself and your affiliation with NABA?
My name is Jeff Badu and I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the state of Illinois. I am the Owner & Practitioner of Badu Tax Services, LLC and my firm specializes in tax preparation, tax planning, and tax representation for individuals and businesses. I have a passion for personal finance and my goal is to help as many individuals become as financially literate as possible. I graduated from UIUC in 2014 & 2015 with both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Accountancy, respectively.
I'm currently the Public Relations (PR) Director of the NABA Chicago Chapter. I've been involved with NABA for about seven years now and I used to serve as the External Vice President of the UIUC Chapter.
I must say that that is impressive!
What is the most challenging obstacle that you have faced while running your business?

The most challenging obstacle would be the lack of access to capital in the initial phase of running a business. Businesses typically need to be in operation for at least two years in order to qualify for a loan. I had to use my personal funds to start my company and ensure that it stays afloat while taking care of other bills.
Despite this, what would you say is the most fulfilling part of your job?
The most fulfilling part is being able to make a positive impact in people's lives. My firm's mission is to help people maximize their financial security and everything that the firm does has to align with this mission. It's great to know that people can go to sleep at night without having to worry about their money.

What tools or experiences would you say NABA has provided you with to be successful in the professional world?
NABA has given me a wealth of tools and experiences including professional development opportunities, leadership opportunities (board member positions), speaking opportunities (Master of Ceremony for 2014 Central Region Conference and guest speaker for 2016 National Convention), internship opportunities (PwC), networking opportunities, and a great support system overall.
What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs?
My advice is to set a solid game plan when starting a business. From a business plan to your business structure, you need to make sure you have a good foundation. Always seek the help of professionals and mentors. Lastly, don't give up. Businesses don't turn successful overnight.
