Message from Associate Dean, Dr. Kevin Jackson

With this message being my last message of 2018, I would like to share something that I have found invaluable to my emotional health. Twice a month, I meet with a group of guy friends to discuss, among other things, what concerns we’re facing. Often, there is no one in the room who can fix the concerns but at the very least, we’re able to encourage one another. To be sure, sharing with others what keeps me awake at night doesn’t come naturally to me. It’s easy for me to convince myself that my challenges, issues or other stuff are totally unique to me and that no one else will understand. But you know what? That mindset has always been wrong. As we enter a stressful season of the semester, please know that you are not alone in the stress you feel. More importantly, please embrace the lesson of reaching out to someone you trust when you’re battling moments of anxiety and stress. Let’s look out for each other. That’s community. That’s Gies.
