MSA Career News - Spring 2020 Edition Vol. 4

It's been a busy week for everyone! I hope you are doing well on your midterms and other extracurricular commitments! I read our local newspaper and I saw a report featuring several MSA students in the VITA program. I am so proud of you! I have included a link to the article in case you want to read about your classmates. This is a great opportunity to hone practical accounting skills. Not sure how to communicate this and other campus experiences to future employers? Make an appointment to see me soon!

Now is the best time to continue studying for the CPA exams, work hard in your classes, and hone your professional skills. It is also a great time to talk about job search strategy! Remember to make an appointment to see me soon!

In this edition:

Career Services - Career Studio and Appointments

There are 3 ways to best utilize our one-on-one career advising services.

Career Studio - 10:00am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday
Career Studio is where to go for answers to your quick 10-15 minute questions. No appointment necessary, just drop-in anytime between 10am and 4pm and a peer career advisor would be happy to help you! This is perfect for a quick resume update review, cover letter review, LinkedIn profile review, and using job search tools.

30 minute Career Advising Appointments

When you login on Gies Groups, you will see appointment availability for me (Lily Huang); and my colleagues Layla Alazawy, an advisor who works with students in all graduate programs; and all of our wonderful graduate student Peer Career Advisors. You are welcome to schedule an appointment with any advisor who is available when you are free.

60 minute Practice Interview Appointments

If you have been invited to an interview, congratulations! Now let's practice so you are prepared and you feel the most confident during your interview! The Practice Interview appointment should be more than 24 hours (and ideally at least 3 or 4 days) before the actual interview so that you have time to use the feedback you receive in the appointment to prepare for the interview. Practice interviews can be scheduled with me directly via email: qhuang3@illinois.edu
