Messages and Reminders from Gies Career Services
We are enjoying the first appointment advising sessions with all of you. If you have not had a chance to schedule your first appointment with one of us, please do this through Gies Groups. We highly encourage you to meet before the career fairs in order to understand more about your career goals, steer you in the right direction, discuss job search strategies and ensure that you are prepared to be successful. All of our appointments will be via Zoom, so no need to schedule time to be on campus.
Frontiers Class – Career Services Content
Class on September 2nd - LAMP List & the 2 Hour Job Search: I will lead you through a job search strategy process called the 2 Hour Job Search. This is a nationally known successful strategy developed by Steve Dalton, Duke MBA Career Strategist and author of the book 2 Hour Job Search. Please come prepared to begin populating your list of companies that you are interested in working for, dream companies you would dream of working for and smaller companies you are curious about working for. We will also work through how to find alumni / professionals on LinkedIn and also work through tracking your outreach to them. I will share the spreadsheet and some important pre-work prior class on September 2nd.
Class on September 9th – Career Fair Preparation Workshop: We will talk everything Career Fair to ensure that you are comfortable and prepared to be successful. This time will be spent doing your research on companies who will be at the Gies Career Fair, what to expect and how to participate. I will share virtual career fair resources and will go through the FAQ’s and answer any remaining questions that you may have. Bring your ‘elevator pitch’ just in case you want to share with the class.
Also keep your eyes out for Virtual Career Fair resources that will be shared by our office the first week in September. In the meantime, you need to Register to attend the Gies Career Fair on Gies Groups today. Register Here: https://giesgroups.illinois.edu/bgp/events/.
