Highlighted Career Events

Dear MSF Students, 

Hi, there are several career and employer-related information sessions coming up over the next couple of weeks as part of Spring Recruiting so if interested, we encourage you to attend so that you learn more about the organization, meet company representatives to expand your network and explore your career interests. 

Some upcoming employer events include: AIG Investments, GEP Case Competition, Goldman Sachs, Ameriprise Financial and Fidelity Investments. 

Some upcoming career fairs include: Illini Career & Internship Virtual Fair, Top MBA & Master's Level Virtual Career Event and the Hire Big10+ Virtual Fair. 

Note: Most of the career and employer-related events are held in February and March so take advantage of these opportunities if possible since many events will not be repeated.

Building upon the Career Foundations pre-arrival online course and the MSF Career Boot Camp, Gies Career Services has organized several career events this Spring to help with your career search.
 

INTERVIEW PREP SERIES presented by Gies Career Services

During the past few weeks, as part of the Interview Prep Series, we hosted behaviorlal interview practice sessions and workshops on how to master your virtual interview. For those who attended, we hope you found it helpful. Mock Informational Meetings – One-on-One Practice Sessions
Mon, March 15 – Fri, March 19 | various times

How do I reach out to an alumni/industry professional to request an informational meeting? During an informational meeting, what should I discuss or ask? What if the alumni/industry professional asks me questions. Any tips on how I should answer? How important is it for me to conduct informational meetings? How many should I set up?

These are some of the most frequently asked questions from our M.S. students so if you also have these questions, we strongly encourage you to sign up for a practice session!

How to sign up?
Complete and submit the “Ask a Career Advisor” email advising form and a career advisor will reach out to set up a time for a one-on-one practice session which will be held during the week of March 15th. Please include your availability when completing the form.


Home Country Job Search – Tips for Jobs and Market Trends

Employer-related events can be a great opportunity to gather knowledge about the organization, explore what you’re interested in (and not interested in), and learn what type of candidate they are seeking. It is also a great opportunity to build connections and expand your network. Even if you are not their target group, it doesn’t hurt to ask questions to build your knowledge base and build connections with company representatives!

GEP Case Competition

GEP, a global supply chain management consulting firm, is hosting a case competition from April 1-9th and the deadline to register is March 31st. Note: GEP recently extended an offer to one of our MSF students last year.

Participating students will have the chance to compete against their peers first at the campus level, with the winners proceeding to compete against the winners from University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and Ohio State University in a Grand Finale.

The case competition is a great way to build your problem solving and interact actively with GEP consultants and senior executives. Goldman Sachs – Corporate Treasury Info Session

Their coffee chats are a great opportunity for you to connect one-on-one with a professional from your division of interest, learn more about the specific office and hear more about what it’s like to work for Goldman Sachs.
