Welcome back – Illinois Football! I hope that you can catch the game tonight on TV.
Congratulations to students who have had interviews and making great progress in your job search! Let me know your status with the company, so I can help you prepare for what’s next!
This is the time of the semester when it is easy to get discouraged about your job search. Company recruiting activities slow down - BUT that doesn’t mean that your career search should slow down! Rather, your efforts should continue, but with a new focus.
- Now is a great time to reflect on the efforts you’ve made toward your job search, and the outcome of your efforts.
- Re-visit your LAMP list and continue outreach and scheduling informational interviews.
- Make it a habit to search for a contact with every job application that you submit. Please let us know who we can introduce you to. We are happy to help facilitate an introduction to our first degree connections.
- Continue with your interview preparation and practice. Remember all of the resources which you have available to you! And don’t forget that October is Interview prep month!

- Pre-Recorded Video Interview Review – (no registration needed - log onto Big Interview to record your video and then schedule an appointment with me a career advisor. Strongly encourage you to watch the instructional video in the Gies groups event here)
- Interviewing Master Guide: Everything you need to know to prepare for interviews. A ‘one-stop shop’ guide to our interviewing resources and services. The guide is divided into multiple sections (behavioral interviewing, digital interviews and case interviews)
- Schedule a career advising appointment to talk though your job search, get advice on next steps, alumni/professional outreach, practice an interview, strategies on preparing for an upcoming interview, cover letter or resume review, etc…

- Big Interview - videos and content on how to prepare for a virtual interview. The platform is also a practice tool where you can participate in simulated practice interviews specific to your industry.

- LinkedIn Learning - courses and seminars on a limitless number of topics. The career and professional development content is high quality and very engaging. (Students login through SSO using their netid/password)
- Handshake - campus job board platform. Use Handshake for career fair information, employer events, and apply to jobs.
- Vault - Vault offers everything a Business student needs to better understand global business and all the complex industries and functions.
- Management Consulted - an in-depth library covering everything you need to prepare for a Case Interview and a career in Consulting
