Career Services Notes for MSBA Students

Monday, April 13, 2020

Good evening!  I hope that you had a nice weekend, and that your week is off to a solid start.  These are not easy days for anyone; patience and persistence will be key to our success.  I miss seeing you in BIF!  I hope that you are doing well, and continuing to do your part by social distancing, to prevent the spread of this virus to the extent possible. Career Services advisers are also working from home – and we’re creating programs to support your continued job search.  Read on, for details.

Your Career Services advisers are also all available for individual appointments...schedule a 30-minute appointment, or a 60-minute Practice Interview, or a Mock Case Interview, using your Gies Groups account.  If you need help scheduling, please email me and I will gladly help you figure it out.

Reminder:  You can read all past versions of this newsletter on Gies Groups. From your program portal (NOT the Gies Graduate and Career Services portal...) click on the “Newsletters” tab at the top, and you’ll find each newsletter since the beginning of the academic year!

Scam Alert
Beware – do not believe everything you read!  Don’t get caught and find yourself involved in a scam!

This weekend I received an email message with the subject line “Important Announcement!”.  The text of the message was:  “We are currently seeking for someone who can work from home as a personal assistant. willing to pay 400UDS weekly and working time is 8 hours weekly.  If you are interested in this opportunity send your Full name and phone number to: …....”.

Consider this and any similar message you receive to be a fraud. DO NOT REPLY. Delete the message.  Ignore it.  The sender is looking for information, which will lead to the responders becoming victims of cyber crime.   How do I know it’s a fraud?  The grammar error caught my attention... and no real job tells you the pay and hours required before telling you more about the job duties.  This is the very beginning of some sort of scheme that will end in people paying their own money for something that turns out to be nothing.  Victims’ personal bank accounts have been drained by similar schemes. DO NOT FALL VICTIM to such crime!

If you ever question the source of any job lead, please contact me immediately.  Send me an email, or schedule an appointment to talk about it.
