A Message from Dean Jackson:
As our academic year ends, it is often instructive to reflect on all we have witnessed. With great humility, I am exercising my privilege as your Associate Dean to share what I witnessed this last year. Reflecting on this last year, I saw a group of students care for their classmate who suffered a seizure as their class began and got that student the help they needed. I saw an RSO engage in a meaningful conversation about how they might become more diverse in their membership and more inclusive in their programming. I saw a community being brought together in Clarksdale, Mississippi by the humble presence of Gies students who spent their spring break designing human-centric businesses for that community’s downtown. I saw student pioneers spend a semester taking their courses in Chicago to demonstrate what Business on Purpose really means. If all of that wasn’t enough, I witnessed that which I missed, but had almost forgotten; I saw joy return to BIF and for that, I am truly grateful. For those who are graduating: one thing in life I have come to know is that some of the most joyous events in life can arrive with a dash of sadness. If you feel a hint of sadness in leaving Gies, take that as a sign of earned affection, and know we are sharing the sadness of your leaving us. Thank you all for a great year! Go Gies!
