A Letter From the President

Welcome to the official website of the Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi at the University of Illinois! Your interest in our organization is greatly appreciated; please feel free to browse our website to learn more about our members, sponsors and events throughout the year.

Alpha Kappa Psi is the oldest and largest professional business fraternity in the nation. As the premier developer of principled business leaders, our fraternity strives to grow students professionally, philanthropically and socially. Students and alumni alike compose a vast network of individuals which includes CEOs, entrepreneurs, and student leaders.

Our diverse group of sponsors help in professional development through speaker series, chapter presentations, and networking events. Similarly, our members develop through chapter opportunities such as the mentorship program and Professional Development Conference.

In addition, the Epsilon chapter values philanthropic work as well as the social aspects of a college experience. Our brotherhood demonstrates our commitment to one another through various weekly social events that strengthen our chapter's bond. Furthermore, our brothers regularly participate in multiple philanthropy events throughout the Champaign-Urbana area each week in order to impact the community and become well-rounded students and future leaders.

Ever since rushing Alpha Kappa Psi, I have felt right at home. Our chapter surrounds everyone with motivated, intelligent, and caring individuals. A majority of the professional, social, and philanthropic opportunities that I have experienced throughout college, I can accredit to Alpha Kappa Psi. I am extremely grateful for my brothers which I can call my best friends, and I look forward to the semesters to come!

Thank you again for your interest. Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the Epsilon Chapter and don't forget to attend our Rush events at the beginning of the semester!

Warm Regards,

Michael Geier

Professional Development

As the premier business fraternity on campus, Alpha Kappa Psi stresses the development and growth of professionalism for all its members. We start growing our members their first week as a pledge, with older members acting as mentors to shape younger pledges into the business professionals demanded today. Throughout their semesters in Alpha Kappa Psi, members have many opportunities to grow, such as resume critiques and mock interviews, but also have the chance to showcase professional skills with our sponsors. Through exclusive networking sessions such as company presentations and our Commerce Night Out, members are able to have meaningful conversations with company representatives, leading to internships and full time offers. At the end of their time with Alpha Kappa Psi, every member enters the business world prepared for success.

Brotherhood

Being a part of Alpha Kappa Psi means you're a brother, not a member. We have roughly 130 brothers in our Co-Ed organization. By joining the fraternity, you have a chance to create lasting bonds and friendships that will continue well beyond your college career. Coming into a university as large as the University of Illinois, it is helpful to provide a comfort zone where members can be assured support from their fellow brothers. We hold a variety of brotherhood events, such as barn dance, semi-formal, formal, football tailgates, drive-in movies, intramural sports, impromptu events and more. With a robust social calendar, you'll always feel involved and have a great network of friends to turn to.

Leadership

With over 33 committee positions and 6 Executive Board positions, the fraternity places a strong focus on leadership. By joining AKPsi, you'll be able to take on a leadership role right away within your pledge class. As your college career progresses, more and more opportunities become available to you. These leadership positions teach you intangibles like presiding over a room, commanding a meeting, getting respect from peers, and being an effective and enthusiastic leader. Our brothers have gone on to become leaders across the Illinois campus and within the business world.

Corporate Sponsorship

Alpha Kappa Psi has the resources to allow you to interact one-on-one with business professionals in a variety of different fields and industries. Our sponsors provide us with exclusive company presentations, unique networking opportunities, and the financial support to hold bigger, better events. Many of our members and alumni are currently interning or working for our corporate sponsors.

Philanthropy

Alpha Kappa Psi is constantly seeking opportunities to give back to the Champaign-Urbana community. We mandate that our members achieve a selected amount of community service hours though many members exceed the required amount and view it as a minimum rather than the maximum. We hold a close relationship with the Center for Women in Transition, Times Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Swann Special Care Center and several other community service projects. We hold an array of events throughout each semester including an Corporate Philanthropy event with our sponsors to support several noble causes.

National History

In 1904, four men at New York University came together to found the nation's first professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. Driven by a spirit of brotherhood professional growth of its members, the fraternity provides skills, knowledge, and opportunities beyond the classroom. There are 245 active college chapters, 66 active alumni chapters, and 200,000 members, all dedicated to the same brotherhood and professional development that first motivated the "Brooklyn Four."

Chapter History

The founding members of the fraternity felt a need to establish an organization that stressed the bonds of brotherhood as well as professional business skills. Their attempts to realize this goal led to the founding of the Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, the first professional business fraternity at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Epsilon Chapter was founded on April 16, 1913 as the 5th chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi. Epsilon has graduated well over 1,500 alumni since 1913. The current brotherhood of Epsilon consists of over 130 members in our tight-knit community.
