It's Deadline Season!
There are a few important dates, deadlines, and requirements to keep in mind as you make your decisions. We are here to help you, so please schedule an appointment with an advisor or visit Express Advising if you need assistance with any of the items below!
Week of October 3rd
Gies Progress Report: The Gies Progress Report is required because it helps you assess how your course performance may impact your GPA before the add/drop deadline. The results of your progress report will only be shared with advisors to assist with identifying college and campus resources to help with academic recovery. Please keep a close eye on your inbox for the email "Gies Progress Report."
October 14th
Drop 16 Week Course: You can drop a 16 week course through Self-Service without a grade of W by October 14th. Please be sure to reach out to areas that may be impacted by your decision - ISSS, Illinois Financial Aid, scholarships, Bursars, etc.
Add Second 8 Week Courses: View second eight-week courses (POT B) on Course Explorer. Second eight-week courses begin October 17th. Remember, these are 16 weeks worth of coursework in 8 weeks, so you will want to plan your time accordingly.
Elect Credit/No Credit for Elective Courses: The Credit/No Credit grading option (CR/NC) offers Gies College of Business students the opportunity to complete an elective course for ungraded credit. This option cannot be used with courses taken to fulfill General Education, Business Core, or Major or Minor requirements. This option also cannot be used with course grades as “satisfactory/unsatisfactory.” Complete the Credit/No Credit Form and view the policy on Undergraduate Advising Gies Groups.
Apply for Grade Replacement: All undergraduate students have the option to repeat courses in which they earned a C- or below and use the new grade to replace the grade they earned in the first attempt. To see all of the requirements and limitations of this policy, carefully review the policy information below. Complete the Grade Replacement Form and view the policy on Undergraduate Advising Gies Groups.
Declare, Switch, Add, Drop a Major: If you are declaring for the first time, changing, or adding your major, then you will want to get it done around October 14th in order to avoid issues with spring course registration. Complete the Major Declaration Form and view the policy on Undergraduate Advising Gies Groups.
October 17th - November 1st
Attend Mandatory Advising: Starting October 17th, all Success Students are required to meet with an advisor at least one time before the upcoming semester course registration. First semester freshmen are only required to attend Spring Semester Planning, but are still welcome to meet with an advisor. The level of academic standing determines who students will meet with for their required advising: 1A - Meet with any undergraduate advisor....1B, 1C, Drop, and Re-entry - Leslie Lewis, Assistant Director of Academic Affairs. A hold will be placed on your account if you do not meet this requirement by November 1st.
We hope this information is helpful as you make your decisions. Additional information about the Gies Success Program and requirements can be found on Undergraduate Advising Gies Groups.
We look forward to meeting with you soon!
