Before you tell a student to email the department, did they ...

  • Research the specific section on Course Explorer and review section restriction information to ensure they meet the restriction?
  • *If they meet a restriction - double check that a course release date is not listed. For example, if they are a first-year student but with Senior standing they may receive an email and can email the department for assistance.
  • *If they do not meet the restriction, they should not email the department. Follow the instructions and choose another course. If it's a major course, they should connect with their major advisor.
  • Special cases - a student-athlete, Marching Illini, et cetera who has a practice conflict with a necessary course should be referred to a professional advisor who can advocate on their behalf. An email to their professional advisor asking for assistance is perfectly fine.
