Deadlines for Fall 2023

There are important deadlines and requirements to keep in mind as you make your decisions.  We are here to help you, so please schedule an appointment with an advisor or visit Express Advising if you need assistance with any of the items below!

Week of October 9th

Gies Progress Report:  This requirement will help you think about how your performance may impact your GPA before the add/drop deadline.  Please keep a close eye on your inbox for the email "Gies Progress Report."

October 13th

Major Declaration:  This is the final fall day for Gies Business students to declare their major for the first time.  If you do not declare your major by this date, then you run the risk of major course restrictions during the Spring 2024 registration period.

Drop 16 Week Courses:   16-week courses can be dropped through Self-Service without a grade of W by October 13th.  Please be sure to reach out to areas that may be impacted by your decision - ISSS, Illinois Financial Aid, scholarships, Bursars, etc.

Add Second 8 Week Courses:  View second eight-week courses (POT B) on Course Explorer.  Second eight-week courses begin October 16th. Remember, these are 16 weeks worth of coursework in 8 weeks, so plan your time well.

Elect Credit/No Credit for Elective Courses:  The Credit/No Credit grading option (CR/NC) offers Gies College of Business students the opportunity to complete an elective course for ungraded credit. This option cannot be used with courses taken to fulfill General Education, Business Core, or Major or Minor requirements. This option also cannot be used with course grades as “satisfactory/unsatisfactory.”  Complete the Credit/No Credit Form and view the policy on Undergraduate Advising Gies Groups.

Apply for Grade Replacement:  All undergraduate students have the option to repeat Illinois courses in which they earned a C- or below and use the new Illinois grade to replace the Illinois grade they earned in the first attempt. To see all of the requirements and limitations of this policy, carefully review the Grade Replacement Policy.

October 16th - November 3rd

Required Advising:  All Success Students are required to meet with an advisor at least one time before Spring 2024 course registration.  Academic and class standing determines who you will meet with:

  • First Time FRESHMEN - Attend Spring Semester Planning if Fall 2023 is your first semester at Illinois.
  • First Time TRANSFER STUDENTS:  Complete Major Course Planning if Fall 2023 is your first semester in Gies as a transfer student.  Keep a close eye on your email for more information.
  •  1A Standing:  Meet with any undergraduate advisor
  • 1B, 1C, and Re-entry:  Meet with Leslie Lewis, Associate Director of Academic Success.
Do not wait to schedule your appointment.  Appointments fill FAST!  A hold will be placed on your account if you do not meet this requirement by November 3, 2023.

I hope this helps with your decisions.  Additional information about Success Planning and requirements can be found on Gies Student Success Gies Groups.

See you soon!
