Spring Semester Planning

Spring Semester Planning is a required one time seminar that all first time freshman must attend.

Below you will see links to videos that break down the different parts of Spring Semester Planning. Feel free to revisit any of the information provided at the program.

Fall 2023 Undeclared Planning Form

At Spring Semester Planning you will learn the following:

  • How to run and read a Degree Audit Report (DARS)
  • Identify courses that you need and want to take in the spring semester of your first year
  • How to search for courses that meet requirements for your General Education and Business Core requirements
  • Be able to locate and understand your registration time ticket
  • Be able to identify if you have holds on your account and how to have them lifted
  • How to identify course restrictions in Course Explorer to avoid registration errors
  • How to use the Plan Ahead feature in Student-Self Service

How do you register for a Session?

  • You should receive an email from the Office of Undergraduate Programs with links to the many sessions you can choose from. You can also go directly to Gies Groups and search through Events and choose a session that best fits your schedule.
  • To cancel or change your session, you can go back to the event in Gies Groups and choose a different session.
  • These sessions are manditory, so if you do not attend a session a hold will be placed on your account and you will not be able to register for courses until you attend a session.
  • Gies Scholars and James Scholars will attend a session with either the Assistant Director of Honors, or the Assistant Dean of Academic Programs. They will reach out to you directly. You will not need to register for a Gies Groups event.

After the session, how would you access the info presented?

We will post an outline of the info provided on this Gies Groups page at the end of October for you to reference.
