Re-entry to Gies College of Business
Re-entry after a Withdrawal, Cancellation, or Leave of Absence
Gies College of Business students who have been away from the university for one semester or less (not including Summer Sessions) who have met the conditions a and b below will be able to register for courses once your time to register occurs. Undergraduate Gies College of Business students who have been away from the university two or more semesters are automatically considered for re-entry into the college and curriculum they were previously enrolled under three conditions:
a. The student is in good standing with the Gies College of Business and UIUC.
b. The student's Final Authorized Term has not expired. Students are allowed 9 semesters to complete the Business degree.
c. The student submits a re-entry application.
Note: A student who was on Academic Warning will continue to be on Academic Warning when they re-enter.
Re-entry after Academic Drop
Students dropped from the Gies College of Business are not automatically eligible for re-entry.
Students who have been dropped due to academic performance must take at least 12 credit hours of coursework at another institution and earn at least a 3.0 GPA before they apply to re-entry. This will aid in the committees decision for the re-entry process.
Beginning the fall 2019 semester, information regarding drop status and appeals will be communicated to your Illinois email account. More information regarding drop status can be found here.
Re-entry Application
Gies College of Business students who have been away from the university for more than two semesters or have been academically dropped from the university must complete a re-entry application. Please submit an application by the following deadlines to be considered for re-entry:
- Fall Semester Re-entry: August 1st deadline
- Spring Semester Re-entry: January 1st deadline
- Summer Semester Re-entry: May 1st deadline
**Petitions received after these deadlines will be accepted, but we cannot guarantee a review and decision prior to the start of classes in the desired term**
Applications will typically be reviewed within 7-10 business days by a committee and decisions will be communicated by e-mail.
As part of the online re-entry application, you will be asked to answer two essays. The essay prompts are provided below so that you may prepare your responses in advance.
- Please explain what you have been doing since you left the University of Illinois: (education, employment, etc.)
- What circumstances pertain to your academic difficulties? What adjustments have you made in your personal, social, or economic situations that have improved your chances for academic success?
If you took courses while away you are required to submit official transcripts to:
