Gies Peer Advising Program

Peer Advisors are Gies College of Business undergraduate students who partner with the Gies Academic Advising team to support their peers academically and personally. Peer Advisors complete a semester-long training course and are able to provide the most up-to-date advice regarding academic planning, curriculum, and policies to assist their peers in academic decision-making. In addition to joining through Zoom, Students are welcome to email question to peerconnect@illinois.edu. Use our Schedule by Major, Schedule by Minor, and Schedule by Language as a tool to help you determine which Peer Advisor you want to work with; schedules will be posted by the 10th day of the semester.

    We assist current Gies Undergraduate students.

  • Q: What can I expect from on-campus Peer Advising?

    Go to the Undergraduate Success Lab (1041 BIF) and check-in for Peer Advising. You will be greeted by the student worker at the block I and asked to swipe in with your iCard. One of the Peer Advisors will invite you to sit at their table and assist with any question you have.

  • Q: What questions can Peer Advisors answer?

    We partner with the Gies Undergraduate Academic Advising team to help students with course selection, four year/graduation plans, study abroad course planning, major exploration and declaration, transfer courses (Transferology), Business Minor questions, DARS, and academic policy. We are happy to help you find your textbooks, navigate course platforms and Gies Groups, explore majors and minors, and share tips for how to get involved on campus! We love sharing our undergraduate experiences with others. Peer Advisors are excellent at communication and problem-solving.

    Use our Schedule by Major to identify the Peer Advisors who share your major or major of interest. Click here to view the spring 2022 Schedule by Major. Peer Advisors will share their experience with the major curriculum and can assist with graduation (four year) plans.

  • Q: How do I become a Gies Peer Advisor?

    Enroll in BUS 199 "Coaching for Success" section N for the spring 2025 semester! BUS 199 is a spring-only course that that is a 1-credit hour, graded course that will serve as a training course for future Peer Advisors! After successful completion of the course, students can officially join the team for fall 2025. Questions about becoming a part of our team?   • Q: How do I become a Summer Gies Guide?

    Every summer we hire a group of excited Gies undergraduate students to help us transition in our new freshman and transfer students.  As a Gies Guide you will provide first semester registration help, lead small groups, and present important topics. Fall 2024 Schedule

Check in at the Undergraduate Success Lab (1041 BIF) to visit a Peer Advisor. Peer Advisors will be available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday's from 10am-4pm and Thursdays from 10am to noon.

Major or minor-specific questions? Preferred language? Use one of our "Schedule By" tools below to help you plan your visit! (Schedules will be posted after the 10th day of the semester). Peer Advisors can use their experience in that major to help you create a graduation (four year) plan.

MAS Express Advising

Beginning August 26, 2024, we are providing an opportunity for you to connect with an ACCY Advisor if you are a MAS student and have questions about your course plan, CPA eligibility, etc. MAS Express Advising will be available in-person in BIF 1045 during the following hours:

Tuesdays: 3PM-4PM

Thursdays: 3PM-4PM

If you are an ACCY major interested in the MAS program or a prospective ACCY student, please utilize the appointment schedule available to undergraduate students to get your questions answered. You can schedule an appointment with an ACCY advisor here.
