Teaching Assistantships
Teaching assistantships provide a resident base-rate tuition waiver ($6,588 per semester for 20-21) plus a monthly stipend (ranging from $988 - $1,304 per month for 20-21) in exchange for an average of 10-13 hours of work per week. Teaching assistantships can be a cornerstone of your graduate experience as they provide connections and opportunities to work with faculty, students, and professionals. The Department of Accountancy offers both Non-Classroom Teaching Assistant (NCTA) and Teaching Assistant (TA) positions. NCTAs assist faculty in class preparation, grading, and other instructional responsibilities, but do not have any teaching responsibilities. TAs on the other hand lead small, weekly discussion sections for ACCY 201 and ACCY 202. Within your assistantship application, you will have the opportunity to list your preference of an NCTA or TA position.
- To apply for a NCTA or TA position, select "Yes" under the program tab in your Graduate College application. Applicants will be required to answer two short questions regarding their commitment and skills.
- Assistantship decisions are based on academic performance in accounting and other university courses, as well as an evaluation of leadership and time management skills.
- The resident base-rate tuition for 2020-21 is $6,588 per semester. Initial appointments are for the Fall semester only. Students will be notified if they have been re-appointed for the Spring semester in December of each year.
- An updated TOEFL score is REQUIRED for all non-native English speakers to apply for an assistantship. A minimum speaking score of 26 is required.
