Finance Academy
Finance Academy, one of the Stanley C. Golder Academies, challenges top students in the College of Business to reach higher levels of excellence in their education and in themselves. By building confidence and capability in these students, they will be prepared to be a positive influence to business and society.
Finance Academy is designed for second semester Freshmen in the Gies College of Business. It is open to all students who can fit the 3-hour class in their schedule. These students are generally pursuing a degree in finance, but some are pursuing degrees in accounting, business administration or data science.
Finance Academy aims to prepare students for the rigorous Gies Academy selection process and prepare them for the interviews they will face starting Sophomore year. In order to do this, Finance Academy will focus on the topics of financial software, time value of money, accounting and financial modeling. The emphasis will be on what students need to know to be successful in this process. Knowledge learned will only help in the academic process.
Finance Academy will meet twice a week and the lessons will be augmented with guest speakers from industry discussing their career as well as with Gies Academy Directors and students who can discuss how the topic relates to their specific Academy.
