Undeclared, Business Administration, and Finance majors have the ability to meet with multiple Academic Advisors within the Office of Undergraduate Programs(OUP). Accountancy majors, or students interested in ACCY should meet with an ACCY Departmental Advisor You will need to log into Gies Groups to schedule an appointment.

The Gies College of Business academic advisors are here to support students in exploring their academic opportunities, develop their interest areas, and support students through their time at the University of Illinois. Academic advising goes beyond the clerical functions of scheduling classes and preparing degree plans. We are here to help students clarify personal and professional goals, resource identification, and advocacy. With resources like drop-in advising and Peer Advisors, there is always someone here to support students through their journey.

Gies New Student Registration

Incoming Undeclared and Transfers

Connect, Schedule, Review! During Gies New Student Registration, incoming students will CONNECT with a professional Gies Undergraduate Academic Advisor through an individual advising session. Students will SCHEDULE their fall courses one-on-one with a Gies Registration Guide. In order to prepare for the upcoming semester, Gies student will REVIEW Office of Undergraduate Affairs supports and resources.

Spring Semester Planning

Gies Undeclared

Academic Advisors strive to empower first-semester Gies students (freshmen and transfers) to make well-informed academic decisions. During each workshop students will review their Degree Audit Report (DARS), learn about the Business Core curriculum, and begin to design individualized spring semester course plan based off their progress and major interests. They will be able to navigate online registration resources such as Self-Service and Course Explorer to carefully plan and select courses for spring and future semesters. Off-campus transfer (OCT) students have the option to attend a Spring Semester Planning Workshop that includes major-specific information.

Major Course Planning

Sophomore & Junior Years

Gies undergraduate students declare their major the first week of March, but what happens after that? Major Declaration Planning takes place in March just before fall course registration begins. Students will meet with undergraduate major advisors to develop course plans based on their experiences and career interests. Students will learn about major requirements and pathways and create course plans for the upcoming fall semester. Students will review their Degree Audit Report (DARS) for their chosen major, and they will be able to navigate online registration resources such as Self-Service and Course Explorer to carefully plan and select courses for future semesters.

Graduation Planning

Senior Year

Students notify the college of their intent to graduate before the 10th day of their final semester. During Graduation Planning, students meet with Gies Undergraduate advisors to learn how to add their names to the degree list and prepare course plans for their final semester. Students will receive a checklist of items to use in order to review their Degree Audit Report (DARS).
